History
1916 –Queens Club of Rutgers College purchases the property at 38 College Avenue, New Brunswick from Robert W. Johnson and relocates to the Johnson Mansion.
1917 - Board of Trustees of the Queens Club appoints William V. Becker and Luther H. Martin to investigate the advisability of repetitioning Kappa Sigma.
1918 - Installation team from Swarthmore installs the Gamma-Upsilon Chapter of Kappa Sigma. Kappa Sigma becomes the 12th social fraternity at Rutgers and the 104th chapter of Kappa Sigma.
1919 - The Queen's Club of Rutgers College officially amends its certificate of incorporation with Middlesex County to change its name to the Gamma Upsilon Chapter of Kappa Sigma.
1939 - January fire in the Chapter House at 38 College Avenue causes about $750 worth of damages.
1946 - Chapter House at 38 College Avenue is sold to Rutgers College. Undergraduate chapter reactivated after a short absence from campus due to World War II.
1947 – The Gamma Upsilon Alumni Association of Kappa Sigma is officially incorporated with the State of New Jersey. The Chapter House at 14 Union Street is purchased from William Norris Leonard and Elizabeth W. Leonard.
1962 - New porch and fire escape constructed.
1970 - Construction on first floor addition of the Chapter House begins.
1971 - Dedication of first floor addition.
2003 - The Gamma-Upsilon chapter is expelled from the Kappa Sigma Fraternity on September 22.
2004 - The Chapter House at 14 Union Street is leased to the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity.
2008 - The Chapter House at 14 Union Street is leased to the Delta Chi Fraternity.
2010 - The undergraduate chapter returns to the Chapter House at 14 Union Street in June.
2011 - Significant renovations are performed on the Chapter House. All of the bathrooms are gutted and renovated, with environmentally-friendly waterless urinals installed. The flat roof on the addition is completely replaced.
2012 - The Chapter House sustains some water and roof damage during Hurricane Sandy in October. The porch on the chapter house at 14 Union Street is completely rebuilt.
2017 – The interior of the chapter house is stripped to its studs and completely rehabilitated in a $1 million renovation. Part of the renovation involved the installation of a five-zone heating and air conditioning system and state of the art fire detection, sprinkler, and security systems.
2018 – Shortly before the chapter was to celebrate its 100th anniversary as a Kappa Sigma Chapter, the undergraduates were expelled from the Kappa Sigma Fraternity and the charter was revoked. This was the second time the charter was revoked in fifteen years.
2019 – The chapter house was leased to the Sigma Delta Tau sorority.
1980 – The Beta Delta Foundation of Zeta Beta Tau and the Gamma-Upsilon Alumni Association of Kappa Sigma jointly purchase the property at 18 Union Street from the City of New Brunswick for $8,500.
1990 - Chapter house at 14 Union Street is expanded. Renovations included an addition that increased sleeping capacity to 35 and a new computer room.
2002 - Chapter house undergoes a major physical renovation. $250,000 is invested to upgrade and modernize the house. Improvements include the installation of a fire suppression sprinkler system.
